Did you know that more than half of check engine light issues can be resolved with a software update to your car?
At Capitol Mechanics, we have invested in the training and equipment to perform evaluations, diagnostics, and software updates to modern car computers and systems. This new capability takes advantage of recent Federal Regulations requiring car manufacturers to provide access to deeper levels of vehicle system software – giving us the capability to resolve things like:
- NYS Inspection/emissions issues
- Drivability/performance issues
- Control Module failures/software updates
- Etc…
Today’s cars are controlled through software which was installed when the vehicle was manufactured. We now have the means to update that software, just like a Microsoft update to your computer!
We’ve seen some great early wins for our customers with this re-flashing capability:
– 2017 Volvo XC-90 AWD – “Avalanche” of Trouble Codes, Limp-Home performance. Identified a faulty module. All problems resolved by module replacement and a complete system re-flash.
– 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo – Persistent “Check Engine Light”. Resolved by identifying failing catalytic converter and system re-flashing.
– 2013 Volvo S60 – Failed NYS Emissions. Re-flash has cleared the problem.
– 2007 Mercedes-Benz S550 – Intermittent “No Start”. Diagnosed and replaced two computer modules followed by a re-flash.
– 2004 Jaguar XJR – Air Suspension Malfunction. Diagnosed, replaced faulty module, re-flashed and calibrated.
– 2008 Land Rover RR – Air Suspension Malfunction. Diagnosed and Replaced Air Compressor and Suspension Module. Re-flashed and calibrated.
– 2006 Land Rover LR3 – Multiple Module loss of communication, “Limp Home” performance. Diagnosed and Replaced Transfer Case Module and Gear Selector Motor. Re-flashed module.
– 2011 Mini Cooper Clubman – Water-Damaged Footwell Module, wiring and connectors. Failure of multiple on-board systems. Diagnosed and replaced damaged wires, connectors and related components. Re-flashed all systems.
